Why We've Put Haggis In A Gluten Free Pie!

Plus: Hogmanay, Bagpipes & Much More!

If you’re only here for the description of our latest limited edition pie, feel free to skip ahead - but if you like a bit of cultural chaos with your carbs (even gluten-free carbs), stick around!!

Because we’ve been proper inspired by one of the most raucous, bagpipe-filled, whisky-steeped celebrations on the calendar: Hogmanay.

What on Earth Is Hogmanay?

Hogmanay is basically Scotland’s dedicated New Year’s Eve celebration, and it’s nothing like your quiet countdown with a dodgy TV playlist.

We're talking fireworks, street parties, first-footing (the first visitor after midnight bringing luck), and, yes, food rituals that would make any baker grin.

This big Scottish bash has its own lore and flavour, and has been celebrated for centuries as a way to send the old year off with spirit (literally and figuratively) and welcome the new one with luck and laughter!!

Piping in the Haggis, And Why We Love It

"What's this ceremonial 'piping in the haggis' then?" I hear you ask...

Well, it's the ceremonial arrival of Scotland’s iconic dish (also prevalent on Burns Night, a separate celebration of poet Robert Burns in late January) where guests stand, listen to Scottish music and watch!

The haggis arrives accompanied by bagpipes and is followed by poetry, toasts, whisky and traditional sides like tatties and neeps!

It’s theatrical, it’s musical, and it’s a bit mad - and we absolutely love the idea of building a celebration around a show-stopping centrepiece of food and flavour.

From Chunk of Devon to Gluten Free: Pie Evolution

Last year at our sister company Chunk of Devon we had a crack at a Steak & Haggis Pie With Whisky and holy crackers, people went bonkers for it! When something tastes that good, you don’t quietly tuck it away… you evolve it.

Our version was already a hit, but we wanted to dial it up to the next gluten-free level for this celebration where traditional food meets party!

So we said: Let’s add a special whisky...

But not just any whisky… we’re talking premium Dartmoor single malt whisky, grown and crafted right near Dartmoor National Park in Devon. That’s right: local grain, local water, local soul!

Plus the sort of flavour depth that only comes from ageing in quality casks (and earning accolades for excellence along the way). In the 2022 Great Taste Awards, the whisky we're using (American Oak Ex-Bourbon Cask Single Malt) scored a 2-star award, recognised by world-class judges for being above and beyond delicious.

So What Did We Do?

We took the hearty goodness of gluten-free steak and haggis, folded in that award-winning Dartmoor whisky, and baked it into a pie that feels rich, smoky, warming and just right for those end-of-year toasts!

Whether you’re celebrating Hogmanay proper, having your own first-footing ritual, or just smashing pie and whisky…  why NOT treat yourself to proper indulgence?

Here’s What You’re Really Tasting...

  • Steak & haggis gutsiness - deep beefy flavour meets savoury richness.
  • 🥃 Dartmoor whisky warmth -  because that dram you pour at midnight should also be in your pie!
  • Pastry that says “celebrate” - rich, satisfying and built for feasting.

This isn’t just pie. This is festival food, the kind of thing you serve loud, proud and with a splash of something strong in your glass.

From Hogmanay to Burns Night: Keep It Going!

Sure, Hogmanay kicks off in December, but homage to the Scottish spirit doesn’t stop there. Come Burns Night on 25th January, bros and families and bands around the world will pipe in haggis again and celebrate the poet Robert Burns with poetry, bagpipes and toasts.

So if you’re thinking about pie that lasts beyond New Year’s Eve, this Steak & Haggis Pie with Dartmoor Whisky will carry you right through until Burns Night and all the dram-raising that goes with it.

Why wait for 2026? Order this bad boy by midnight TONIGHT (22nd December) before orders close for New Year!!
